HC Deb 12 February 1920 vol 125 cc212-3
32. Mr. HURD

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government have under consideration the suggestion of the United States Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Carter Glass, that America should be paid her international debts in gold; and whether, in order to help to meet this request, British owners of ornamental gold, such as trinkets and gold plate, will be invited to hand them over to the Treasury in return for an interest-bearing bond, and thus assist the exchanges between this country and the United States?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I have already taken steps to have this proposal carefully examined.
