HC Deb 10 August 1920 vol 133 cc202-3
7. Mr. SWAN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Polish Government, in failing to empower its delegates to negotiate peace when applying to the Soviet authorities for an armistice, was acting under the advice of or with the consent of the Allied Governments; and whether he has any official information showing that this action of the Poles was with the object of gaining time for the reorganisation of the Polish army under the direction of the Anglo-French Mission?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

I would venture to refer the hon. Member to the statement on Poland that the Prime Minister is to make this afternoon.

Mr. SWAN

Are we to understand that the function of this Government, which was to make the peace of the world, now is to frustrate every effort at peace, and is this country to be thrown into suicide?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

I am sure the hon. Gentleman cannot expect me to anticipate the Prime Minister's statement.
