HC Deb 28 April 1920 vol 128 cc1214-5
67. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Minister of Health whether he is now in a position to make a statement concerning the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Hayles and their infant son, who died at the Bermondsey Infirmary?

Dr. ADDISON

I am informed that an inquest has been held, and that the verdict returned was one of death from heart failure from lobar pneumonia due to natural causes. I am awaiting copies of the depositions, but I think it is fair to state that according to the Press reports, the charges which were made in regard to this case were not confirmed at the inquest.

Mr. THORNE

The right hon. Gentleman will remember that when I put a supplementary question, I asked him whether he would be good enough to inquire into the housing conditions in this district. Has that inquiry been carried out?

Dr. ADDISON

Inquiry has been made, and I have a complete report, of which I will send the hon. Member a copy.
