HC Deb 26 April 1920 vol 128 c841
42. Lieut.-Colonel MURRAY

asked the Prime Minister whether he will state the nature and composition of the inquiry that is being held into the recent disturbances in Jerusalem; and whether it is being conducted in public?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have been asked to reply. If the hon. and gallant Member will repeat his question, I hope to be in a position to make a statement on this subject to-morrow.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the Zionist organisation are represented on this Commission, or whether it is simply a Commission consisting of the military, inquiring into the recent disturbances?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I hope to be able to make a statement to-morrow, which will in itself only be a provisional one. Communications are still passing between this country and Egypt on this point.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Can the right hon. Gentleman not even give us the names of the Commissioners?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I should not attempt to do so except in response to a question of which notice has been given.

Sir J. D. REES

May I ask what is the immediate interest of the British taxpayer in Jerusalem? Is not his interest as great in Jericho, Jupiter and other like places?
