HC Deb 20 April 1920 vol 128 cc230-1
73. Colonel BURN

asked whether the employees in the public parks will be granted their full civil pay during the period of the annual training if they spend their annual holiday in serving their country in the Territorial Force?

Sir A. MOND

The employees in question, provided they have completed six months' service, will receive the same privileges as other Civil Servants attending camp, namely, those attending for a fortnight will be allowed one week's special leave on full civil pay, the remaining leave being taken as part of their ordinary allowance of annual leave on full civil pay or as special leave without pay. If their attendance in camp is less than a fortnight, the whole period of their absence must be taken out of their annual leave or reckoned as special leave without pay.

Colonel BURN

Would not the example of the Government be good for private employers if these men had seven days ordinary leave as well as attending the camp which they devote entirely to the service of their country?

Sir A. MOND

These Regulations are laid down by the Treasury and the hon. and gallant Member had better address his question to the Treasury.

Colonel BURN

Will the right hon. Gentleman support that view and use his influence with the Treasury?

Sir A. MOND

The hon. and gallant Member must see that these Regulations affect the whole of the Civil Service and not merely my Department.
