HC Deb 20 April 1920 vol 128 cc208-9
43. Colonel ASHLEY

asked the Pensions Minister whether he is aware that the Newcastle War Pensions Committee has quite recently appointed a gentleman who has not served in His Majesty's Forces as their secretary; and whether he will state what action he proposes to take in the matter?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of PENSIONS (Major Tryon)

The appointment referred to was recently submitted for confirmation in accordance with the Regulations, but approval has been withheld, and the local committee have been asked to report as to the steps taken to give preference to ex-service candidates. Their report has not yet been received.
