HC Deb 20 April 1920 vol 128 c205
34 Lieut.-Colonel JAMES

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office (1) whether pre-War military dress is to be re-introduced into the Army; if so, whether he is able to state the estimated cost of such clothing for each arm of the service, without taking into account" existing stocks of cloth contracted for at pre-War rates and actually in the possession of the military authorities;

(2) Whether, in the event of officers being ordered to purchase and wear uniforms of pre-War patterns and material other than khaki, the War Office intends to pay an adequate outfit allowance to those compelled to purchase such outfit; whether a maintenance allowance for the periodical renewal of such uniform will be paid and, if so, the amount of such allowances for the different branches of the service; and whether he is able to state the average cost of a complete full-dress uniform under present conditions if such uniform is purchased from one of the recognised military tailors and outfitters?

Sir A. WILLIAMSON

The whole subject is still receiving careful consideration, and I regret that I cannot at present make any announcement on the matter.
