HC Deb 19 April 1920 vol 128 c8
6. Lieut. - Colonel ARCHER-SHEE

asked when the Committee on Merchandise Marks may be expected to report?

Sir R. HORNE

I understand from my hon. Friend the Member for the Wells Division of Somerset, who presides over the Merchandise Marks Committee, that the Committee have finished taking evidence and hope to complete their Report in about six weeks.

Lieut.-Colonel ARCHER-SHEE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that while this delay is taking place in legislation with regard to imports large numbers of German clocks and other German goods are being imported under false pretences, and a great number of manufacturers are giving up business, and cannot the matter be expedited in some way so that German goods can be marked as German?

Sir R. HORNE

I shall be glad to do everything in my power. I shall also be very glad if my hon. and gallant Friend will give me particulars of any cases of the kind to which he refers of which he is aware.
