SMITHasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture whether information has been obtained by his Department as to the profits of farmers in 1919–20 as compared with 1913–14; and, if so, whether he could state the gross profit and the net profit after allowing for taxation?

Sir A. BOSCAWENIt would be very difficult to get any adequate information, because, as my hon. Friend knows, the great majority of farmers do not pay tax under Schedule D.
