HC Deb 14 April 1920 vol 127 cc1681-2
65. Mr. HURD

asked the Home Secretary what County Councils have taken advantage of the Act of 1912 to prevent the disfiguring of natural beauties of landscape by hoarding advertisements; and whether, now that the War interval is at an end, he will remind those Councils who have taken no action of the powers conferred upon them by Parliament?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Major Baird)

I presume the hon. Member refers to the Advertisements Regulation Act, 1907. Under this Act 26 counties have made bye-laws, and I will have a list of them sent to the hon. Member. The matter is one in which the initiative should be taken locally, and the Home Secretary does not think it would be desirable for the Government to press local authorities to make bye-laws which were not demanded by local feeling.
