§ 24. Mr. MacVEAGHasked the Chief Secretary if he will give the names of any newspapers temporarily suppressed in Ireland; and how many have been permanently suppressed since May, 1916?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONForty-three newspapers have been suppressed in Ireland, at various times, since the 1st May, 1916. Three have not applied for permission to resume printing. Of the others eight refused to sign the necessary undertaking not to print anything that would constitute an offence under any Statutory provision and eight have ceased to exist. I shall be very glad to supply the hon. and learned Member with a list of the newspapers if he so desires.
