73. Major D. DAVIESasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the nature of the duties to be performed by the new accountants in the Inland Revenue Department which makes it necessary to restrict, these appointments to candidates who are members of certain societies; and whether, in view of the effect upon a number of public accountants with wide experience and practical ability in every branch of their profession who are not members of the specified societies, he will reconsider his decision in the matter?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe accountants in, question are required to advise upon questions involving the most expert accountancy considerations which are outside the range of the general work performed by the Board's officers, and it was necessary on this account to restrict the field of choice in the manner indicated. I may add that these posts, few in number, have all been filled.
