§ 44. Major NALLasked whether the Appointments Department is a temporary institution designed to help demobilised officers back into civil life or whether it is intended to create it on a permanent basis?
§ The MINISTER of LABOUR (Sir Robert Horne)The Appointment's Department is a temporary institution, whose main function may be summarised as that of assisting in the resettlement of ex-officers and men whose qualifications lie in the direction of the professions or commerce. I cannot say how long the Department will continue; but there is no -intention of maintaining it on anything other than a temporary basis.
§ Major NALLIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Department is causing those employers who apply for ex-Service men to get applications from men who are in work, and that applications are coming in from men employed by the Port of London Authority and various town councils?
§ Sir R. HORNEI am afraid I do not follow the hon. Member's question, but know of nothing such as be suggests.
