asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the number of civilians employed by the Admiralty, outside the Admiralty itself but including the dockyards, on the 1st August, 1914, 11th November, 1918, and the latest available date?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The numbers of civilians, clerical and industrial, employed at the Admiralty Outport Establishments (excluding yards abroad) on the dates mentioned, were 58,294 and 114,593 respectively the corresponding number on 1st October, 1919, the latest date for which returns are available, is 96,192.
