HC Deb 27 November 1919 vol 121 cc1874-5
26. Mr. KILEY

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that during the War many soldiers were sentenced to terms of imprisonment for offences other than criminal; is he aware that these men were not then imprisoned but were put in the firing line, and those who were not killed or maimed were sent to prison after the Armistice was signed; and, in view of the fact that nearly all the Great Powers have released their military prisoners, is he prepared to advise similar action so far as British soldiers are concerned?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Churchill)

This question only reached me a short time before the House assembled. The terms of the question do not at all represent the actual facts, but I am anxious to make a full statement, and if the hon. Member will put a question down early next week I will answer him.

Mr. KILEY

I will be very glad to do so, and to supply the right hon. Gentleman with a case which bears upon what I have said.
