Mr. ALFRED SHORTasked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the Sub-committee of the National Whitley Council for the Civil Service proposed to investigate the question of the organisation of the clerical classes only; and whether, in the circumstances, he is prepared to accept the Report of the Committee on Women in Industry for early application to the manipulative classes in Government Departments who are not covered by the investigation of the National Whitley Council?
§ The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)The manipulative classes are not covered by the Sub-committee of the National Whitley Council; but it is understood that their organisations are at present engaged in the preparation of wages claims and these will be duly considered when they have been presented.
