HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 c608
42. Mr. G. LOCKER-LAMPSON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Munitions how long it is proposed that the Munitions Housing Department shall continue their management of huts and houses?

The DEPUTY-MINISTER of MUNITIONS (Mr. Kellaway)

I agree with my hon. Friend that the responsibility of the Ministry of Munitions for the management of the houses and hostels erected during the War for the accommodation of munition workers should cease as soon as possible. It is hoped that local authorities will take over, in connection with their housing schemes, a large number of the houses and hostels which are situated in congested areas. Active negotiations towards this end are proceeding between my right hon, Friend the Minister of Health and certain of the local authorities concerned.

43. Mr. LOCKER - LAMPSON

asked what is the annual rent obtained from the houses and huts under the management of the Munitions Housing Department?

Mr. KELLAWAY

The rents received from houses under the control of the Ministry of Munitions Housing Department during the twelve months ending 30th September, 1919, amounted to £68,564. It should be noted that during the greater part of this period the Belgian village at Birtley has been unoccupied, while the houses at Woolwich have only been under the control of the Housing Department since 1st April, 1919.
