HC Deb 05 November 1919 vol 120 c1476
87. Mr. HIRST

asked the Secretary of State for War, whether his attention has been drawn to the case of Sergeant Charles H. Hugh, No. 200870, depot 1/4th Somerset Light Infantry, 8th Reserve battalion, Bellary, India; whether he is aware that this man enlisted in the first week of the War and was drafted to India in October, 1914; that he was wounded in Mesopotamia in March; 1916; that he was returned to India, where he has suffered from enteric and malaria several times; that during this period of five years he has never been home; that Sergeant Hugh and about thirty other men, who were all that were left in India of the 1/4th Somerset Light Infantry, have been drafted to Bellary with a unit which is replacing a Regular garrison battalion; that Sergeant Hugh's mother is seriously ill with neuritis; and that his pre-war employment is waiting for him; and whether he will have inquiry made into this matter with a view to the early return and demobilisation of Sergeant Hugh and the other men of similar service?

Mr. FORSTER

I am informed that Sergeant Hugh left for dispersal on 27th September, 1919.
