HC Deb 05 November 1919 vol 120 c1490
46. Mr. SWAN

asked the Prime Minister whether Italy had refused to co-operate with Great Britain in enforcing a blockade of Germany; and, if so, what steps His Majesty's Government were taking in the matter?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

I presume that the hon. Member refers to the restrictions which have been placed upon the sailings of German ships in the Baltic. If so, the answer to the question is in the negative. Those measures have been taken by the Supreme Council of the principal allied and associated Powers acting in concert.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Would the hon. Gentleman state whether the blockade of Germany, legal or illegal, regular or irregular, is still in force?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

If the hon. and gallant Member will give me notice, I will give him a definition of a blockade.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is it in force?
