HC Deb 05 November 1919 vol 120 cc1474-5
81. Lieut.-Colonel MALONE

asked the Secretary of State for War whether Brigadier-General G. F. Marsh attends political meetings of representatives of the Finnish or Esthonian Governments; whether through him any declaration of British policy has been conveyed to those Governments in connection with their relations with the Soviet Republic; and, if so, whether he will publish a statement defining the policy of the British Government towards these States in this matter?

Mr. FORSTER

So far as is known, Brigadier-General G. F. Marsh does not attend political meetings of representatives of the Finnish or Esthonian Governments. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative. The third part does not, therefore, arise.

Lieut.-Colonel MALONE

Are we to assume that the duties of General Marsh are entirely military, and not in any way political?

Mr. FORSTER

I am asked whether he attends political meetings, and I say that, according to my information, he does not.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Can he tell us whether the Soviet Government of Russia pays people for advertising its virtues, in the same way as the Pelman Institute does?
