HC Deb 05 November 1919 vol 120 c1498
75. Mr. T. A. LEWIS

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will state on what principle and by what machinery is the distribution of the Army Canteen Fund, now in charge of Lord Byng's Committee, to be carried out; whether it is proposed to set up local committees, and, if so, whether ex-Service men will be directly represented upon them?

Mr. FORSTER

Under the scheme approved by the Government the profits of canteen trading accumulated during the War are, broadly speaking, to be given for the promotion of the welfare of those who served in His Majesty's Forces during the recent War, their families and dependants. The details of the machinery, both central and local, by which the distribution is to be carried out is still under consideration of Lord Byng's Committee, but I am informed that provision is being made for the adequate representation of ex-Service men.
