HC Deb 29 May 1919 vol 116 cc1408-9
50. Mr. CHADWICK

asked if the British Government has officially conveyed to the captain and crew of the Danish steamer "Mary" its appreciation of their gallantry in rescuing Mr. Hawker and Commander Grieve in mid-Atlantic in a gale?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

An expression of appreciation of the services rendered and the gallantry exhibited in the rescue of Mr. Hawker and Commander Grieve by the captain and crew of the Danish steamer "Mary" will be conveyed to the Danish Government for communication to the master and crew. The Board of Trade are considering what further recognition should be given. I take this opportunity of associating my right hon. Friend and the Board of Trade with the general expression of satisfaction at the rescue.

Mr. J. JONES

Can the hon. Gentleman tell us whether the Danes are to come under the Aliens Restriction Act?
