§ 41. Sir ALFRED YEOasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, having regard to the small number of promotions and allowances granted in the past to the staff of the Mercantile Marine section of the General Register and Record Office of Shipping and Seamen as compared with those granted to the Royal Naval Reserve section, he will take steps to secure that under the forthcoming re-organisation of that office an adequate proportion of promotions will be granted to the Mercantile Marine section, as requested in the petition addressed to him in December last by the staff officers, second division, and assistant-clerks in that section?
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANI am afraid that I cannot anticipate the recommendations of the Committee which is considering the future organisation of the office of the Registrar-General of Shipping and Seamen by pledging myself to make promotions from particular sections.
