HC Deb 20 May 1919 vol 116 c185
23. Mr. WIGNALL

asked the Secretary of State for War whether it is intended to make permanent the Tilbury Ordnance Depot; whether he is aware that the men employed at the depot are paid as else where on the dock, and that the working week totals forty-four hours; and whether endeavour is being made to secure men to work for £2 8s. 6d. per week of forty-eight hours?

Mr. FORSTER

The Royal Army Ordnance Corps Depot at Tilbury Docks is not to be permanent and there is no intention of altering the present arrangements by which the wages and working hours of workmen casually employed there follow those of other employ és at these docks.

Mr. WIGNALL

May we assume that a stop will be put to advertisements to work for longers hours and for less wages than provided for in the agreement to which the Government were a party?

Mr. FORSTER

Yes. I think that that would be a fair assumption.
