HC Deb 20 May 1919 vol 116 c178
6. Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

asked whether free travelling passes will be granted to poor people wishing to visit the graves of near relatives in France and Flanders; and, if so, when this boon may be expected?

Mr. FORSTER

I regret that, having regard to the expense involved, which would possibly amount to over £2,000,000, it is not considered practicable to issue free travelling passes to relatives to visit the graves of deceased soldiers in France and Belgium.

Lieut. -Commander KENWORTHY

Will the Secretary of State for War have an inquiry made as to the number of people who want to go, and if it is not too great, will he consider allowing these poor people this opportunity?

Mr. FORSTER

I am afraid I cannot undertake that.
