§ 56. Major PRESCOTTasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can give the total cost of the road constructional work carried out under the direct supervision of the Road Board officials since the outbreak of war and up to March, 1919, for the Air Ministry, Ministry of Munitions, Office of Works, Admiralty, Board of Trade (Timber Supply Department), and the War Office Departments?
§ Mr. BALDWIN (Joint Financial Secretary to the Treasury)With the hon. Member's permision, I propose to circulate the answer in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ The following is the Answer referred to:
§ The total cost of work carried out by, or under the supervision of, the Road board for the Departments named up to 31st October, 1918, including expenditure for reinstatement of roads damaged by extraordinary traffic was £4,699,762, made up as follows:
£ | |
War Department | 3,143,392 |
Admiralty | 116,262 |
Ministry of Munitions | 478,870 |
Board of Trade (Timber Supply Department | 87,475 |
Air Ministry | 870,818 |
Office of Works | 2,945 |
§ Since the 31st October, 1918, the work in question has been carried out by the Joint Roads Committee appointed by the War Office, so perhaps the hon. Member will be good enough to ask that Department for the figures from that date until March, 1919.
