HC Deb 20 May 1919 vol 116 c205
83. Sir KINGSLEY WOOD

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether he is aware that the Epping Forest Commissioners have given notice to the Leyton Urban District Council that the tenancy of the allotments on Wanstead Flats is to cease at31st December next; that the acreage of Wan-stead Flats is, approximately, 1,500 and the space devoted to allotments only 30 acres; that this is the first year many of the holders have had the allotments, none have had them more than two years, and that if the tenancy is determined at the end of this year these allotment-holders cannot be adequately recompensed for their work and expenditure of time and money by producing food at a critical time for the country; that the Leyton Urban District Council desire the retention of these allotments for at least two years from the end of the War; and whether he will take steps to secure these holders in their tenure for the period stated?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

I have at present nothing to add to the answer I gave to the question addressed to me on the 12th instant by the hon. Member for Silver-town.

Sir K. WOOD

Has my hon. Friend communicated with the Commissioners on this matter?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

Yes, Sir; I said 80 in reply to that question.
