HC Deb 19 May 1919 vol 116 cc14-5
20. Lieut.-Colonel Sir JOHN NORTON GRIFFITHS

asked the Secretary of State for India how much war expenditure has been incurred by the Indian Empire, and how much has been contributed by the Indian Princes and others individually in India?

Mr. PARKER (Lord of the Treasury)

Including a contribution of £100,000,000 towards the war outlay of His Majesty's Government, the war expenditure of the Government of India up to the 31st March, 1919, may be taken at about £127,800,000. A further contribution has been proposed by the Government of India, and is at present under consideration. Indian Princes and others have contributed in cash sums amounting to £2,100,000, in addition to placing at the disposal of the Government of India considerable further sums for the purchase of horses, motor cars and vans, motor ambulances, comforts for the troops, etc.
