HC Deb 19 May 1919 vol 116 cc13-4
16. Major NEWMAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, seeing that by an Act of Parliament passed in the year 1918 the London United Tramways Company has secured an extension of its tenure in Middlesex and Surrey until 1950, and that under this Act it will have power, at the expiration of six months after the termination of the War, to make substantial increases in its existing statutory fares, the Board of Trade or other authority will have any power to intervene between the travelling public and the company in the matter should they deem it desirable?

Sir A. GEDDES

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to Section 7 of the London United Tramways Act, 1918, of which I am sending him a copy.
