HC Deb 15 May 1919 vol 115 cc1757-8
52. Sir CHARLES HENRY

asked the Prime Minister if he will arrange that the Vote of the Ministry of Shipping will be, at an early date, placed down for discussion by a Committee of the Whole House, so that an opportunity may be given to raise the question as regards the policy in offering the national shipyards at Chepstow to the Federation of Engineering and Shipbuilding Trades of the United Kingdom?

Mr. BONAR LAW

If there be a general desire for the discussion of this Vote, it could no doubt be arranged through the usual channels.

Sir C. HENRY

Will the right hon. Gentleman take into consideration the fact that this is a matter of considerable importance and a policy which ought to be discussed by the House?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I am sure my hon. Friend understands the system on which Supply Votes are always arranged. The Government never fixes the day. They are always ready to consider the wishes of the House.
