HC Deb 13 May 1919 vol 115 c1439
64. Mr. HIGHAM

asked the Home Secretary if he is in a position to state the result of his investigations into the increased omnibus fares; and whether he has power to order their reduction?

Mr. SHORTT

No, Sir. The investigation is now proceeding, and must necessarily occupy a little time. I have no power to order a reduction of the fares.

Mr. HIGHAM

Will the right hon. Gentleman inform the House how the Government propose to reduce the omnibus fares and tram fares if they are found to be excessive?

Mr. SHORTT

That will have to be considered.

Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

Will the right hon. Gentleman put an end to the advertisements now appearing in all the papers saying there are no increased fares?

Mr. SHORTT

I have no power.
