HC Deb 13 May 1919 vol 115 cc1430-1
48. Mr. GOULD

asked the Lord Privy Seal, if he will say whether, in view of the retention by the American Government of the German interned vessels for a consideration of £20,000,000, the vessels were valued before being taken over; and, if so, by whom?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I can add nothing to the answer which I gave to my hon. Friend yesterday.

49. Mr. GOULD

asked the Lord Privy Seal if the Government intend to distribute German captured tonnage among the Allies proportionately to their losses of tonnage due to enemy action?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I cannot make any statement at present on this subject.

Brigadier-General CROFT

When does the right hon. Gentleman think it likely he will be able to make the statement on a matter which is of tremendous importance to the Mercantile Marine?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Yes, it is very important. It appears, I believe, in the Summary, but there is to be some revision and the terms are not yet altogether settled.
