HC Deb 06 May 1919 vol 115 cc758-9
87. Mr. LEONARD LYLE

asked the right hon. Member for Cambridge whether he proposes to take in hand as one of the earliest aspects of policy the whole question of transportation in London; and whether his Department will possess sufficient powers to regulate, co-ordinate, and extend the existing means of locomotion in London, apart from the tramways under the control of the London County Council?

Mr. SHORTT

My right hon. Friend is fully alive to the importance of the question of London transport, and if and when his Ministry has been established he will go into the matter. Under the powers sought to be obtained by the Bill to establish the Ministry of Ways and Communications it should be possible to regulate and co-ordinate existing services to a considerable extent, and if these powers prove insufficient it will be for the Minister to consider whether Parliament should be asked to give further powers.
