HC Deb 06 May 1919 vol 115 c722
20. Lieutenant-Colonel D. WHITE

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that there are a number of officers in combatant units at home awaiting demobilisation who are surplus to the requirements of such units and for whom no useful employment can be found; whether he can state the cause of delay in releasing them, and whether, in the interests of economy, he will issue instructions that such officers shall immediately be demobilised?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I would refer to the answer given last Thursday to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Moss Side to the effect that arrangements have been made for the inspection of unit registers with a view to ensuring that no officers or men (including those of administrative Services and Departments) who are eligible for demobilisation are being retained without good and sufficient cause. Officers who are eligible are being demobilised as rapidly as possible.
