HC Deb 06 May 1919 vol 115 c760
89. Mr. MacVEAGH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he can now supply any evidence in support of his suggestion that the murder of the late Mr. Milling, resident magistrate, had a political origin?

Mr. SAMUELS

Every effort is being made to bring the criminals in this dastardly outrage to justice, and my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary can, therefore, make no statement at present.

Mr. MacVEAGH

As the Chief Secretary has conveyed to the House the idea that this murder has a political origin, I want to know what foundation he has for that suggestion?

Mr. SAMUELS

I cannot, in the interests of justice, make any further statement.

Mr. MacVEAGH

There was no foundation for the suggestion, absolutely none.
