HC Deb 06 May 1919 vol 115 cc755-6
76. Major WHELER

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that on three occasions since the 31st of March, 1909, the last occasion being the night of 29th April, mail bags have been stolen in transit from London to Faversham, and that many valuable documents have been lost; whether any clues to these robberies have been found; and what action is being taken?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

I am aware of the facts. The case is under investigation, and it would not be in the public interest if I were to make a statement as to the steps which are being taken in the matter.

Major WHELER

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a great many thefts are taking place, that a great many letters are not coming to hand, and that a great many complaints have been made from all quarters about people not getting their letters?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

I am sorry to say that I am aware of all that.
