HC Deb 06 May 1919 vol 115 cc746-7
60. Colonel ASHLEY

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty why Mr. G. Hopper, 6, Station View, Llanidloes, Mid-Wales, dependant of A/1Stoker G. H. Hopper, No. K/1099, His Majesty's ship "Mignonette," who lost his life as the result of the ship being sunk by a mine on the 17th March, 1917, has not yet been able to secure a settlement with regard to the effects, pay, etc., of the deceased seaman, seeing that over two years have elapsed?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I am afraid there is some misunderstanding. The claim of Mr. George Hopper, of Station View, Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, as father, to receive the Naval Assets, was admitted on the 15th June, 1917, and the amount due, namely, £9 12s. 9d., was remitted to him on the 22nd of that month by money order, which was duly cashed. An award of £7 17s. 11d. in respect of compensation for the loss of the deceased's effects in His Majesty's ship "Mignonette" was included.
