HC Deb 05 May 1919 vol 115 cc565-6
23. Mr. PEMBERTON BILLING

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is the intention of His Majesty's Government that the territory of Southern Albania should be handed over to Greece, as was promised by the ex-Emperor of Germany to the ex-King of Greece?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Cecil Harmsworth)

The future frontiers of Albania are in process of delimitation by the Peace Conference, and I am not in a position to anticipate the conclusions of the delegates.

Mr. BILLING

Will the hon. Gentleman say that, under whatever circumstances the rights of small nations should be considered in this as in other matters?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

I am sure the hon. Member will not fail to observe that this is a matter for the Conference, and not a principle strictly for the Foreign Office or His Majesty's Government.
