HC Deb 01 May 1919 vol 115 cc331-2
92. Mr. SWAN

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he will make arrangements for all persons afflicted with blindness to be under the direct control of a Government Department, that the cost of their education and maintenance should be a direct charge upon the National Exchequer, and that they should have direct representation on the various Committees appointed to look after their welfare?

Major ASTOR

My right hon. Friend is giving careful consideration to the problems involved in the care, education, and maintenance of the blind, with the assistance of the Advisory Committee which was established by his predecessor. He cannot at present make any statement as to the policy to be adopted.
