Colonel THORNEasked the Minister of Labour whether he is now in a position to state the result of the correspondence with the Education Committee of the Lancashire County Council respecting the difference with their school caretakers regarding the conditions of labour; whether he is aware that the position in this case remains as it was over a month ago; and whether he can take any action to secure a settlement?
§ Sir R. HORNEAn officer from this Department has interviewed the parties concerned, and the Director of Education of the Lancashire County Council has informed the National Federation of Caretakers that certain information with regard to caretakers was being collected for the information of the Education Committee, who would consider the application for increased wages. I will communicate with the hon. Member on this matter as soon as I have further information.
