HC Deb 20 March 1919 vol 113 c2215
33. Colonel YATE

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he will consider the question of providing self-working lifts in thestaircases on the western side of the House during the coming year?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Sir Alfred Mond)

In view of the expense involved—which is 50 per cent.greater than when the question was last raised by the hon. Member—I do not feel justified in recommending the provision of such lifts.

Lieutenant-Colonel LOWTHER

Will the right hon. Gentleman promise that the provision of these many necessary articles, such as lifts and staircases, will synchronise with the removal of the restrictions on the sale of alcoholic liquors?
