HC Deb 19 March 1919 vol 113 cc2090-1
62. Mr. HAYDN JONES

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture how many resident local inspectors of fisheries or assistant inspectors the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries have appointed for Wales; what are the scientific, technical, or other qualifications of the gentlemen appointed; whether the appointments are temporary or permanent; what is the salary attached to the posts; whether either of these inspectors has any knowledge of the Welsh language; and what duties they perform that could not equally well be carried out by the local statutory authorities?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

Two assistant inspectors have been appointed for Wales. These appointments, which carry a salary of £250 a year, are temporary. One of them speaks Welsh, and both are intimately connected with local fishery interests. It would be difficult to give a detailed account of their qualifications and duties in an oral answer. The latter neither conflict with nor can be carried out by the local statutory authorities. I will send the hon. Member a statement on the subject.
