asked the First Commissioner of Works whether, in view of the many overseas Visitors to this country, he can see his way to the reopening of the National Portrait Gallery at an early date?

The National Portrait Gallery is fully occupied by a War Office staff, and there are no other premises available to rehouse this staff at present. I fully share the hon. Member's anxiety regarding the reopening of the National Portrait Gallery, and this be done as soon as it is practicable.
