HC Deb 12 March 1919 vol 113 cc1252-3
34. Major HENNESSY

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the necessity for cutting down expenditure at the earliest possible moment, he will issue orders that all officers holding posts in back areas and lines of communications in France and other theatres of war, which during the War may have been of value for the efficient working of an Army under active service conditions but which are now of no military value, shall be forthwith relieved of their positions?

Mr. CHURCHILL

All officers in France and other theatres who are not required for the Armies of Occupation will be demobilised as quickly as circumstances permit. I am concerned to notice that the demobilisation of officers is not keeping pace with that of soldiers, and I am giving further directions on this subject.
