HC Deb 03 March 1919 vol 113 c42
Sir D. MACLEAN (by Private Notice)

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that the Naval, Military and Air Force Service Bill, which was read the first time on Thursday last, has not yet been circulated amongst Members, nor is it to-day in the Vote Office, and can he give any reason why this has not been done?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I regret that there has been an error in regard to the currency of this Bill, which it is intended should date from the 30th April to the 30th April next year—that is to say, the same currency as the Army (Annual) Bill. Owing to a clerical error in the insertion of the date, it has been necessary for the title to be amended. That has entailed a delay of twenty-four hours in the Bill getting into the hands of the Members. In consequence, the consideration of the Bill has been put off from Wednesday until Thursday of the present week.

Sir D. MACLEAN

Shall we get the Bill to-day or to-morrow?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I hope it will be in the hands of Members to-morrow.

Sir D. MACLEAN

If it is not, I would respectfully suggest that the Bill should go over until next week.

Mr. CHURCHILL

It will be in the hands of Members to-morrow.
