HC Deb 03 March 1919 vol 113 c37
81. Mr. CROOKS

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware that engineer-officers employed on minesweepers who signed Article T 124 Z have been at a financial disadvantage compared with other officers in that they have not been granted children's allowances and no statement has yet been made as to the gratuity to be awarded to them; and whether he can state if this gratuity will be granted on the same basis as to other officers?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The officers in question receive Mercantile Marine rates of pay, and are thereby precluded from receiving children's allowances, which are only payable to officers in receipt of Naval pay. The question of a gratuity for officers signed on under Article T. 124 Z is under consideration.
