HC Deb 04 June 1919 vol 116 cc2000-1
49. Mr. CAIRNS

asked the Prime Minister if he is aware of the prices that are being asked for land for housing schemes for the working classes; and, if so, if he will take steps to put a stop to such prices being charged?

Mr. PRATT (Lord of the Treasury)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. I am glad to say that, although there are exceptions, the prices being asked for land for housing schemes are generally not unreasonable. Arrangements have been in operation for some time under which the services of the officers of the Land Valuation Department have been made available to assist local authorities in the acquisition of sites.

Mr. CAIRNS

Is he aware that there is land laid out at £80 an acre at Hay dock, at £650 at Bootle, and at from £600 to £1,200 at Maryport?
