Mr. DAWESasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Foreign Office have in any one case previous to that of the Abyssinian Corporation, Limited, authorised the publication of an official letter recommending an issue of shares by a privately-promoted company; and why the State should not share in the profits made by the promoters of the Abyssinian Corporation, Limited, in view of the fact that the Foreign Office letter of the 13th May, 1919, was the sole basis on which applications for shares were made?
Mr. HARMSWORTHThe letter of 13th May does not bear the construction put upon it by my hon. Friend, and the questions which he bases upon that construction do not, therefore, arise; but it is not the first time that such a letter has been written or published.
