68. Mr. J. JONESasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that the work of renovating and repairing the barracks and married quarters in Aldershot is being curtailed in consequence of the insufficiency of the financial grant for this purpose; that men, most of them ex-soldiers, are being discharged, although there is still much work to be done; that with the discharges which have already taken place, and others expected, the staff of men employed on this work will be less than that employed before the War, although very little work has been done during the War, and a large amount of repairing work is necessary; and whether he will take steps to increase the money devoted to this purpose so that the necessary work may be taken in hand and the present discharges avoided?
§ Mr. FORSTERThe question of making further allotments to Aldershot will be given the most careful consideration.
Mr. JONESCan the right hon. Gentleman explain why it is that the Govern- 1824 ment, who are appealing to employers to expedite work to find employment are not themselves doing so?
§ Mr. FORSTERI do not think I could admit that.
