§ 37. Mr. BOTTOMLEYasked the Food Controller whether be can see his way to amend the Orders under the Defence of the Realm Regulations as to maintenance of food supply, so as to place it within the power of a private individual to set the law in motion against profiteers or other infringers of the food Regulations?
The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of FOOD (Mr. Roberts)The proposal seems to be one that might be brought to the notice of the Select Committee of this House which has recently been appointed to consider the question of profiteering.
Sir H. DALZIELAre we to understand that we have to await the result of the inquiry of this Committee before any strong action is taken?
Mr. ROBERTSIt does not altogether rest with me. I realise that the strongest possible action ought to be taken, and I have been making representations to that effect.
